Thanks to my coach John Hughes I remain on target for RAAM after having fractured 4 vertebrae and a rib. My crash is an opportunity to improve other essential items, and I will be in a better position for RAAM! :)
So I’ll be concentrating on my mental skills: focus, attitude, concentration, mainly to get me through the low points during the race (there’ll be quite a few!), as well as having the equipment and nutrition finalised.
John suggested I live for 8 days on my cycling diet even though I’m not cycling; that will indicate any problems real fast - I can do that! He suggested for sleep deprivation that I stay up for 24hours (not just watching videos), and then continue to stay up for another 24hrs – I don’t have to do that cycling. That makes huge sense.
I’m making lists of all the logistic issues that might arise, as well as all the equipment and spare equipment: bikes, wheels, saddles, clothes, clothes, wheels, tyres, and so on!
We won't let my crash be a show stopper!
