Message from Steven

Regrettably I have had to withdraw from RAAM 2013, but I'm already working on RAAM 2014. The injuries from my crash 3 weeks ago are not healing well enough. The xrays and CT scan showed minimal healing of the 4 (or 5?) vertebrae fractures, and the concussion is expected to take another 5 weeks or so. On Friday, I failed all the balance tests, leading the doctors to suggest that I don't return to a bike on the road for at least another 4 weeks and then start out on the grass! That's all much too close to RAAM starting in June. As Jim Williams said: it's just that the RV has a temporary but compulsory rest stop alongside the route.

I now have more time to train, and my endurance capacity will be so much more deep-seated. I will be fitter, stronger, better and faster in 2014.

Thank you all so very much for your support. Thank you especially to each and everyone of my crew, with all of whom I have spoken and they all want to be with me at the start line in Oceanside in 419 days' time!

Kind regards,
Steven
